Gabby ALWAYS wants to be a cowgirl. She says she has horses in Texas (aka our living room) and wants to ride in a radio (aka rodeo). Her fantasy comes true whenever we are lucky enough to visit our friends the Powers.

Mr. Powers and Gabby have become the best of friends. Gabby LOVES his horse Pepper. In the parade this weekend Gabby's favorite horse was the one that "looked like Pepper".

The cowboy and cowgirl ride off into the sunset (or at least off from Mom and Dad:-)!)

Later the cowgirl and her two friends Ike and Bodey came to find Mom and Dad.

The photography crew (Mom, Jake and Kim)

Being a cowgirl is not limited to time on horses. It is now morning S.O.P. at our house to appear in hat, shirt, panties and boots (it is too hot here in our house without AC for pants at night). This look only gets better as Mimi bought her little cowgirl granddaughter a hot pink cowgirl hat (picture coming soon)!

Summer has finally begun!

The first real sign of summer here in Spokane is Matt attending the annual Sasquatch music festival at the Gorge in George, WA (haha on the name of the city!)

Each year we order caterpillars and watch them as they turn to butterflies. We released them this June with our friends the Rawlins and the Pincocks.

Gabby is learning to ride a bike this year. She picked out a princess helmet (no surprise) that came with knee pads. I didn’t think we needed knee pads for biking. It turns out that not only do they come in handy for the crashes but that they also make great ice skates on our hardwood floors!!!! Jake is loving the swing (which Gabby finally gave up as she moved to the big girl swing) and, much to Matt’s dismay, also loves the princess helmet and knee pads.

We spend the best FHE ever tubing with our friends the Rippys out on Long Lake. Don’t tell my mom but that is Jake on my lap on the tube! (It was safe Mom, I promise.)

Finally it warmed up enough in Sandpoint to begin our favorite summer activities. Gabby’s favorite is, of course, tubing behind Papa’s boat. She was very excited to get started for the summer. Matt’s favorite activity is relaxing in the hammock with his two favorite kidos! (I think they like it too!)

Spring in Spokane

Spring has come to Spokane. Perhaps I should say that the calendar says it is spring. It is cold and rainy rainy rainy! But here is what we have been up to…

Jake got his first hair cut (OK first photographed hair cut). He is such a Daddy’s boy. He is more of a cuddler than Gabby with both of us, but when Matt is home I cease to exist. So it is MUCH easier for haircuts, fingernail clipping etc. if Matt holds him.

With the rain came high water at the Spokane Falls. We spent a Saturday at Riverfront Park on the gondola ride and at the carousel.

One highlight for Gabby was getting an elephant ride at the circus. Of course prior to the circus we got to enjoy the animal rights protesters letting us know how many children have been killed in freak circus elephant accidents (FYI it is not many).

Our ongoing project for spring has been learning to ride for both kids. Despite this picture Jake is actually pretty good at the ‘scuttlebug’. Gabby is starting to get how to pedal a bike. She usually dons both the princess helmet and knee pads (and this is a good thing). The bike we bought is a bit sticky but I think she is getting it down!
